Plioplatecarpus sp.
Plioplatecarpus is a comparatively late-comer as mosasaurs go, first appearing in the middle Campanian and probably surviving until the end of the Cretaceous. Plioplatecarpus inhabited the Western Interior Seaway, Mississippi, Alabama,
North Dakota, South Dakota, Canada,
Sweden, and the Netherlands. This particular specimen was discovered in 1996 by a Historical Geology class from Okaloosa Walton College in Northwest Florida.
Marine sediments deposited along eastern edge of the Mississippi Embayment during the Cretaceous Period make up the Demopolis
formation in Mississippi and Alabama. The cast reproduction of this specimen is being offered exclusively by TPI. |
