Xiphactinus 17 with Rick and Tyler.jpg (53279 bytes)
This is the prototype skeleton of our new, giant Xiphactinus taken at the North American Museum of Ancient Life in Lehi, Utah.  The photo was taken immediately after installation, with NAMAL staff members Rick and Tyler in the foreground for scale.

Xiphactinus 17 foot chasing Pachyrhizodus.jpg (45389 bytes)

This view shows the Pachyrhizodus specimens it is chasing, with our Elasmosaur overhead at the top of the photo.  Keep in mind, each Pachyrhizodus skeleton is 6 feet long!  Incidentally, Pachyrhizodus remains have been found as stomach contents of Xiphactinus.
Xiphactinus Stomach Contents

Xiphactinus stomach contents cast.
Several Xiphactinus specimens include stomach contents, including the most famous, which you can see at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays, Kansas. Stomach contents were found with this original skeleton and consist of the disarticulated remains of a Gillicus.  The original specimen from which this cast was made, was discovered by Mike Everhart, who operates the award-winning website:  www.oceansofkansas.com. These remains were molded and cast in their original matrix, with three vertebrae from the Xiphactinus in the same slab.  A cast of the slab containing these stomach contents is available to display with the three-dimensional skeleton at extra cost.

For more details on the three-dimensionalization of these skeletons, refer to our page on our 12.5 foot version of these great fish.
