The eggs of the Malagasy Elephant Bird (Aeypyornis maximus) are the largest ever known to exist. This egg had a capacity of about two gallons
The Elephant Bird, known from only Madagascar, was large, short-legged, and flightless. The discovery of bones and eggs of the Elephant Bird are believed to be the source of the legend of the mythical bird - the Giant Roc.
