Baryonyx walkeri

Skeleton

30' l x 8' w x 4' h
[9.2 m x 2.4 m x 1.2 m]

(Lower Cretaceous, England)

The complete skeleton of this unique 32-foot long spinosaur, a fish-eating dinosaur, was discovered in 1983 just 30 miles south of London.

Its three-foot long crocodile-like skull is unique among carnivorous dinosaurs. The expanded snout and curved jaw margins suggest this dinosaur was adapted to fish-eating and perhaps scavenging.

The claw bone (ungual phalanx) from the thumb is one of the largest carnivorous dinosaur claws known, measuring 12 inches round the outside curve. It may well have been used for spearing fish or for ripping into large prey.
