Prionochelys was a spiky sea turtle that lived during the Late Cretaceous Period in Alabama. Our specimen was cast from the most complete Prionochelys yet discovered. Prionochelys, like the many other types of Late Cretaceous turtles in the southeastern US, would have come ashore to lay eggs on the beaches of the ancient barrier islands of Alabama. With beautifully scalloped margins, this is one of the most appealing of all sea turtles of the Cretaceous.
