The eggs of the Malagasy Elephant Bird are the largest ever known to exist. This egg had a capacity of about two gallons. The Elephant Bird, known only from Madagascar, was large, short-legged and flightless. The discovery of bones and eggs of the Elephant Bird are believed to be the source of the legend of the mythical bird – The Giant Roc.
